Welcome to Boston Gongs, where art and sound combine in each handmade piece. This work is original in design and fabricated at my home studio in Malden, MA.
You may be asking, "aren't gongs round?" Historically the first gongs were square shaped and called "bell plates". Named for their clearly defined pitch and bell-like sound.
This work was begun in 2008 when I took a welding class at the Museum School of Fine Arts. Over the next 8 years it would slowly evolve and lead to the founding of Boston Gongs in 2016. Since then I've made over 300 gongs and have retail outlets in several handmade boutique shops.
My instruments and installations have also been rented or commissioned by the New England Philharmonic, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, Boston Percussion Group, and more.
